ASL and CART services are available on request for programs, classes, and events at all NYPL locations. For details on the location of hearing loops and assistive listening devices, see below or check with your local branch.

ASL interpretation and CART real-time captioning service
Request a free ASL (American Sign Language) interpretation or CART (Communication Access Real-Time Translation) captioning service by emailing accessibility@nypl.org.
Information needed: your name, email, and telephone, type of service requested (ie. ASL or CART), name of the event or program, date, and the library where the event will be held.
Timeframe: please book these services at least two weeks in advance.
Assistive Listening Devices
Assistive listening devices are available at:
- Andrew Heiskell Braille and Talking Book Library: Program Room (FM Assistive Listening Devices)
- Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library (SNFL), Information Desks, Rooms 76 & 67 (FM Assistive Listening Devices)
- Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture: Langston Hughes Auditorium (FM Assistive Listening Devices)
Hearing Loops
Hearing loop assistive listening systems are available at the following locations:
- Stephen A. Schwarzman Building: Bartos Forum, Berger Forum, South Court Auditorium, and South Court Classrooms A & B (Infrared)
- Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library (SNFL): Circulation Desk (Wireless)
- Library for the Performing Arts: Bruno Walter Auditorium (Infrared) and the Circulation Desk (Wireless)
- Bronx Library Center: Welcome Desk (Wireless) and Auditorium
- Muhlenberg Library: Community Room (Wireless)
